Suez Canal:

Geographical Location
The Suez Canal is located in the north-east of Egypt, connecting the Mediterranean Sea (in the north) with the Red Sea (in the south).

The canal passes through the isthmus of Suez, a narrow strip of land separating the continents of Africa and Asia.

Strategic relevance
The Suez Canal is the shortest sea route between Europe and Asia, shortening the distance between them by up to 40% compared to the road around Cape of Good Hope in South Africa.

The channel passes about 12% of the world’s trade volume, including oil, gas and other goods.

It is a major source of national income for Egypt, generating billions of dollars a year in transit fees.
